In cases of sickness everyone has the right to sickness pay. No one will deny that. But it is different if there are persistent doubts about the truth of a sick report, particularly if it is the same employee(s) who keep reporting sick. Maybe the employer has personally seen, or suspects, that the sick report is false. Or by alluding to or stating bluntly that the person in question or their company vehicle has been seen where they should not have been, colleagues, customers or suppliers can prompt suspicion.

From our investigations it seems that particularly during evening hours and weekends the pseudo patient is hard at work: in the hotel and catering sector; as a driver or private chauffeur; or some other sector which lends itself to part time work.

They may consider these hours as their own time. Moreover, the chance of anyone checking them during these hours is minimal. Home telephones can be switched through to their mobile to help them to cover for the fact that they are not at home.

But if someone is working hard during their so-called own time and collecting sickness benefit because they are not working at their regular employment, that is not right. If you have doubts that you want to set to rest, contact us to discuss keeping the suspect under observation.
